Modernism and the Roots of Contemporary Architecture
Today’s Japanese architects score top marks for originality on the international design scene—and with good reason. After World War II, Japanese modernism developed its own remarkable lineage under the influence of architects such as Tadao Ando, Kazuyo Sejima, and Toyo Ito, who incorporated centuries-old building styles and wooden construction in their postwar designs. KIE traces Japanese modernism to its present-day genius, with a focus on nine leading residential architects.
