The Chi of Asian Tea

Drink to Your Health!

photography by Tomoyasu Naruse & Kazuhiko Suzuki

In recent years, chic bottled teas have inundated Japan. But the phenomenon isn't limited to this country alone: health drinks and therapeutic teas are also increasingly popular in Korea and China, where consumption of empty-calorie carbonated sodas and juices is on the wane. What's the real appeal of health cocktails? We're learning that as we drink, we assimilate the chi—or vital energy—that beverages contain. Consuming good chi is good for us; as energy flows through our bodies, circulation also improves. The Japanese have come to realize that stagnant chi and slow-moving blood can trigger illness. Good chi, strong blood circulation, and robust health go hand in hand.
